Today was observation day at H’s dance school. The parents were herded into an area where there was outdoor lawn furniture set up and the girls were assembled in and area of the studio so that it was set up very effectively as a stage. They’re all between the ages of 4 and 7, most of them about 5. All of them adorable.
Miss Sheila started the performance with tap. It was so much fun to watch how serious these little girls are about their steps. One or two of them actually show some talent, most of them just a ton of enthusiasm. H couldn’t care less if she gets the steps right, she’s just happy to be watched. She tapped her little heart out, a huge smile on her face, playing the audience like you can’t believe.
As the girls changed from their tap shoes to ballet slippers, Miss Sheila fielded questions from the moms. Inane questions, all of them. I mean really people… they’re babies. And if you’re so serious about getting your child into show business, I hardly think Ocala is the place to do it. Anyway, H was the first to get her ballet slippers on and as the teacher was answering the questions, H was giving a solo performance behind her. Wonder where she gets that from…
The girls lined back up again and began to show us their plies, arabesques and pirouettes and even though she went along with the dance, you could see that H’s heart was still in her tap shoes.
You can see here, here, or here. The last one is of that handsome brother of hers. Just ’cause. (Somewhere along the way, these pictures were lost – I’m delinking until I can find them. 8/17/10)

What great pictures! You can tell she loves dancing.
Personally, I always liked tap much better than ballet.
