And I can’t find my way home…

PinExt And I cant find my way home...

So, everyone who frequents here knows that we’re looking to purchase a house.  After our recent fiasco we feel pretty lucky to have come out of it unscathed. That being said, we’re still ready to take the “homeowner” leap.  The market here is definitely down, as it is everywhere, but I’m looking at houses that they’re asking $100,000.00 less than they were a year and a half ago. Really. One Hundred Thousand Dollars. It’s unreal. Yesterday we looked at an adorable house.  3/4 bedroom 2 bath – a HUGE kitchen perfect for the entertaining that we like to do and a back yard… well – words can’t describe how fabulous the backyard was. A built in pool (a liner pool, but a pool none the less), an outdoor bar with stone and glass block, with power and a small bathroom with a toilet and sink under the awning.  Fans had been installed under the awning for really hot days.  It was fabulous.

Unfortunately the previous owners got a little nasty when the bank foreclosed and tried to destroy things a little bit.  The ripped down (and sold) the privacy fence, ripped some of the ceiling tiles and installation out of the outdoor area and the pool needs about $2,000.00 worth of work if you’re going to just repair the liner – I would prefer ripping the liner pool out and putting a real pool in.  They’re asking $150K, but with all those problems, you’d probably have to put another 50K into it.  So, that would bring it up to 200K and quite honestly, it’s just too small a house for $200,000.00 in Ocala, Florida right now.

I bought my house brand-new for $200,000 in 2002. I put in about $8000 so far. It is worth less than $175,000, and despite making payments on it for over five years, I owe over 182K. It makes me sick. :(

  3. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
