New Promotional Materials

I ordered some new business cards and postcards to reflect the new, pink theme around here.

I designed these myself and ordered them from vista print (search for vista print coupons for 50% off!). I was concerned about the final product, wondering if the resolution was going to be good enough for print work, but I got them yesterday and I have to tell you – they’re gorgeous! Vistaprint made it pretty easy. I just downloaded their template and paid attention to the guides and resolution instructions. These are the nicest promo postcards I’ve ever seen, if I do say so myself.

Whew! What a Week!

Busy, busy, busy!  Yesterday we had friends over.  Friends that we haven’t seen in a looong time – way too long – and we had an absolute ball!  I went to the local Italian deli and got some fresh mozzarella which I sliced and layered with thick slices of gorgeous beefsteak tomato – drizzled a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil over it and sprinkled some sea salt and cracked pepper on top.  We also had grilled, marinated artichoke hearts and marinated mushroom salad.  It was so delicious.

Today, Jim’s off and it’s errand day – dry cleaning, food shopping, produce stand, etc.  I also have to plan tomorrow’s menu.  We’re having more friends over; the friends who invited us out to their farm last week and they were so gracious and lovely that I really want to make our “non-farm” day special too.  I think I might keep it simple and buy some fresh, yummy artisan rolls and some cold cuts.  We’ll have the build your own sandwich thing with plenty of cold cuts, condiments, pickles and olives and I’ll make coleslaw, pasta salad and potato salad.  Maybe I’ll cheat and get the red potato salad at Publix and just doctor it up a little with some fresh herbs and a splash of good vinegar (shh, don’t tell anyone, k?)

Saturday and Sunday I’m not planning anything – but it is my birthday weekend, so they’re might be a change of plans.  All I know is that I am so not cooking.  Maybe I’ll sneak out and go see Sex and the City, but I don’t know. I guess we’ll just have to see.

:present:

Oh!  And I just got the first leg of my new promotional materials order – here’s a peek:

Shhhh… what’s that sound?

Oh – it’s silence.  In my house.  Like, the “no children are in this dwelling” kind of silence. And they won’t be home till tomorrow. I can not remember ever being in my house, without my children, overnight. The last time I spent a night away from them was two years ago. The time before that? I don’t think there was a time before that. They’re at Grandma’s. Swimming, eating every sugary thing in her house (and she has a lot of sugary things in her house) and watching things that they’re not allowed to watch at home.

Tomorrow, she’s taking them to see Iron Man – good – I thought I was going to have to sit through it and now I don’t.  I shall be putting the pajamas on very shortly, opening the bottle of wine that I have chilling and…

and…

Yikes, I can’t think of anything to do.

In Honor of Those Who Have Sacrificed To Preserve Our Freedom

Go put flowers on a Vet’s Grave.  Go to the Parade in town (Here’s our Local Memorial Day Program). Donate a few dollars to the Veteran’s Administration (they’ll be at your supermarket, collecting) and when you give, be sure to say “Thank You”.

Subway Sandwich Shop

Apparently Subway has decided that they never need to see my money, ever again.  You see, they’re running a contest; write a story using one of their starters with a “beginning, a middle and an end”.  I didn’t know that a beginning, middle and end were optional when writing a story, but that’s another topic entirely.

“Contest is open only to legal US residents, over the age of 18 with children in either elementary, private or parochial schools that serve grades PreK-6. No home schools will be accepted.”

*bolding mine

While Subway has the right to run any type of contest that they want, I’m not exactly sure if they have the right to exclude certain types of schools, but the bottom line is this:  Although I probably would not have entered this contest, Subway’s obvious slight will cause them to lose my business.  I will also use every avenue at my disposal to make others aware of this.

Update:  They’ve changed the rules to include homeschoolers.  Good decision Subway – don’t rile up the homeschoolers.
