The Good, the Bad and the Oh So Pretty

Ok, so here’s the rundown so far for anyone who might be interested.
On the whole, I love the iphone. It’s very easy to use and very sleek.
(It’s got a good beat and you can dance to it)

Google maps with satellite, rocks, but just like Google Earth (of course) the photos are at least 2 years old. Maybe this isn’t a problem in most of the country, but here in Ocala FL – there are literally hundreds of roads that just didn’t exist two years ago; whole communities as well – so that sort of sucks.

Just like my macbook and ipods, everything just sort of works. I spent a decade and a half as a PC person (our first was in ’91 or ’92 and didn’t have a hard drive and I did database work as early as ’88 for a plastics company that I worked for) – and made the jump to Mac last November. We still have a couple of PCs in the house, but I don’t use them much anymore. The biggest surprise for me, using the Mac stuff is that things just work. I have found that if I’m trying to figure something out and it takes more than two steps, I’m over thinking it. At the risk of repeating myself; things just work.

As far as ringers go, making them in Itunes is ridiculously simple, but I’m not thrilled with the fact that I have to buy the song, then buy the ringer. When all is said and done it’s still only $1.98 – but the fact that I can’t make ringers from songs that I didn’t buy from Itunes is sort of annoying. I’ll deal though.

The pictures that I take from the phone are actually pretty nice “from my camera” pictures. It won’t be replacing my camera anytime soon, but again, I’ll deal with it.

I haven’t really used Safari outside of my house, so I’m not sure how the speed is going to be once we’re away from my wireless network. (on the network it’s fabulous!)

As stated previously, activation was a nightmare. I got different answers from every single tech support person that I spoke to. I’m sure they have their reasons, but it seems a little silly that Apple won’t allow in-store activation given the number of problems people are having. In the end, we were two sim cards and leaving my old number with Sprint (which worked out in the end because AT&T gave me a rocking new number – I’m ridiculously easy to please) into it. But it works and I’d probably do it again.

So far – I’m really enjoying it – and it’s really, really pretty.

I think the next computer I buy will be a mac. Vista is just too sucky to be borne. My brother just got a brand new Dell next week and he gets the blue screen of death all of the time because of some sort of Vista problem. I hear so many people who swore to be PC loyal for life, now saying Vista is driving them to Apple. As for the iphone, I like Verizon too much or else I’d get one.
