All Around the Internet Friday

I’ve been thinking an awful lot lately about “Web 2.0″ and what it really means.(You may see a post on this topic very soon) I see such a change in the last two years, and to me, it feels a lot more like it did back with BBSes of the early ’90s. Granted, it’s a heck of a lot prettier now, but the connection, the sharing, the sense of social community that got me hooked way back when, feels like it’s back. There are so many social networks, and feeds and online applications that make my life so much easier, so I think I’d start there this week. If you’re just here for the fun stuff, feel free to skip down below the jump.

Gone are the days that you need to shell out close to a thousand dollars so that you can keep track of your expenses.  There are tons of Online Office alternatives out there, the one I like best right now is Google Docs.  As a matter of fact, I use Google for a lot of things and I really like most of them.  Right now, I’m working on a news letter full of fake “facts” about my family to send out to relatives for the holidays.  You know, things like, how my 13 year old won the Nobel Peace Prize, right after he helped his sister build us a new house. We’re homeschooling freaks, so I think it’s sort of funny to say things like that.  Yeah, I’m weird.

I just signed up for a Friend Feed account, I’m a little late to the party on this one, but here’s instruction on how to port Twitter buddies to Friend Feed.  Very cool. By the way, I’m “colormepink” on Friend feed if you want to be my friend.  And here’s an article about how to be useful on Twitter. Alternately, here’s one about the downside of being helpful on Twitter.  The same author has a post that links to her 5 most helpful articles about twitter. BTW, I’m color_me_pink on twitter, so if you want to follow me, now you know how to find me!

And I certainly can’t write a post about social media and web 2.0 without mentioning, once again, my favorite browser.  Flock is set up for the social animal in all of us.  I reviewed it back in October, so I won’t repeat myself here.  hint: I like it.

Ok, now on to the fun stuff (although I happen to think that technology is way fun).

This is a great idea – OnStar has introduced technology so that when, for instance, a car is stolen – OnStar can remotely reduce the speed of the car to under 5MPH.  I think it sounds like a great idea in the fact that it would greatly reduce high speed chases, but I hate to think of what would happen with malfunctions in the system.  Yikes.

Beautiful Christmas Lights!

Astrophotography is one of my favorite things to look at… and this photo of Super Nova Remnants is stunning. I’m drawn to chaos, but I working on that, I promise.

Ok, I didn’t think I was going to find this that funny, but I couldn’t help giggling – I love when he calls the guy Shrek.  Funny stuff – and I think I need to get those flip cameras.

In honor of the fact that I’m completely ready for the weekend, I close with this:
funny pictures of cats with captions
more animals

It is OK to use my photos or content provided a link back and proper crediting is given
