The other night I was craving something crunchy and salty. I asked my husband to pick something up for me on his way home. He brought Pita Chips which I love, but I was really surprised that the small bag was almost $4.00! There’s got to be a better way, right? Yes, there is and I found it!
2 whole wheat pita rounds (I used Toufayan)
1/4 c. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 t. garlic powder (more or less to taste)
1 big pinch of dried basil
Grated Parmesan cheese
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Cut the pitas in eight slices like a pizza.
Open each “slice” and separate it, so that you only have one thickness in each triangle. Line the baking sheet with aluminum foil and spread out the triangles so that they’re in a single layer.
Mix olive oil, garlic and basil in a bowl and use a pastry brush to brush the oil mixture onto the triangles. I couldn’t find my pastry brush, so I used the back of a spoon and a silicone spatula. I really recommend using a brush.
when all the chips have been coated, sprinkle lightly with the parmesan cheese. Put in the oven and bake. Mine were done in 7 minutes.
Let cool completely and then transfer to an airtight container lined with parchment. I have no idea how long they’ll last in that container, these didn’t make it through the night.
