I was so excited to get an advance review copy of Guy Kawasaki’s book “Enchantment” as I’m a huge fan of his and really enjoy this genre. When I received the book I dove right into it and was thrilled by all the great information, presented in such a thoughtful, humorous, palatable way. I enjoyed it so much that my copy is covered in blue highlighting and you know those Post-It Highlighter Pens? The ones that have the Post-It flags right inside the highlighter? I used every single flag in a brand new one and the highlighting tip is frayed from the markings I made in this book. Along the side there are dozens of flags marking ideas and passages that I want to revisit and on the top are flags marking the things I wanted to take action on. (I like a system, can you tell?)
One of the first things I noticed when I opened the cover was that the table of contents is set up as if it were a check list, which spoke right to my list maker. I love a toggle box. Some of the most useful bits to me were the ideas about presenting yourself, the perfect handshake, why my crows feet are a good thing (hint: it has to with how you smile), and most importantly creating win-win situations. I think that’s what I like most about Guy and his writing… He seems to be always looking for the things that will benefit all the people involved. I love that.
The ideas for using push and pull technology were great for everyone from the beginner, right through to the most experienced and I do have to admit to a thrill every time I read something that I was already doing. Here’s an overview of the basics of Enchantment:
I loved this book and learned so much from it; what I was doing right, what I could be doing better and what I never thought to do. I really appreciate the way Guy’s writing connects you to the ideas as well as the people behind them and I recommend this book wholeheartedly. I found so many ways to use the information, in personal relationships, business, family, even enchanting my children.
On a really personal note, I’ll be attending a conference in May where Guy is the Keynote Speaker and I think I’m going to bring my marked up, well read, highlighted and flagged copy and see if he’ll sign it! That would be ridiculously enchanting.

Omg, I love this! Hey, what boss wouldn’t be enchanted by a worker that makes him look good…these are great tips!

I’ve never heard of Guy or his book, but I love your enthusiasm — no, enchantment — with his work. And he’s right about the crow’s feet, about how they make a person likable. It reminds me of the line from a Jimmy Buffett song: “Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been.”
