You know I love olives, right? I mean I really olives. So when I had the opportunity to sample some olives that were a little bit different, I truly jumped at the opportunity. I mean, it’s olives, right? And have I mentioned that I love olives? Look! I have FIVE PAGES of recipes with olives in them.
Mario Olives sent me a box of their snack packs with enough to share and while we unpacked the box, the kids and I shared a pack of the kalamata. Yum. What’s interesting about the packaging is that the olives are packed without brine, so there’s no messy liquid to deal with, but the olives are still moist and juicy. They come in three flavors: Kalamata, Chili seasoned with Thyme and Garlic seasoned with Thyme.
The next day we were going out so we each grabbed a pack and figured we’d share them as snacks instead of getting a high calorie, processed snack. There was very spirited discussion about which was our favorite and we were all very able to argue for each flavor. In the end, I was surprised that I think the Chili Seasoned with Thyme was my favorite, but it was really close.
They’re portion controlled and each pack is less than 100 calories, which, I don’t know about you, but I could eat olives by the jarful and never notice that I’d consumed about eleventy billion calories, so the 100 calorie pack is pretty useful for me. I’ve never thought of olives as an “on the go” type of snack before, but this is a really good idea; a low calorie, nutritious, delicious idea.
Since receiving them I’ve not only used them as a snack, but I’ll open a pack and pour on top of my salad for lunch, added them to a store bought fruit salad, and enjoyed them with some cheese and pepperoni. No muss, no fuss as they say. They’re on Facebook too!
