This afternoon, Haley came running out of the music room (which is a converted garage) looking pretty freaked out.
“Mom, I think someone is outside the house and they were there yesterday too”, she said with wide eyes. I asked why and she told me that she had heard a very clear voice say, “Whoa! I can hear with these things”. Knowing my daughter’s penchant for drama, I went to investigate, sure that she had a forgotten tab open in her browser that had audio running. I asked what she had open and it turns out she wasn’t even using her browser.
I looked out the side door, and there was no one there, thankfully, but I couldn’t figure it out. Then I thought maybe it was an alarm on the computer, or noise from Travis’s room coming through the vent. We checked both of those things and it wasn’t either of them.
I asked her to show me exactly where it seemed to come from and she went right to the slop sink – “From behind here, the wall, I think” she said. I looked behind the sink and did find a couple of mothballs, but nothing that would explain the noise. ”What if the house is haunted?” she asked me – and quite honestly for a moment I considered it (I might have a penchant for drama myself).
Then Haley decided to take the situation in hand and knelt way down to look under the bottom shelf of the slop sink. She started to giggle and pulled this out from underneath. Watch at your own risk.
Apparently, when the washer drains into the slop sink, it caused enough shaking to activate our ghost the toy.

That probably would’ve freaked me out too if I didn’t know what it was!
That is AWESOME. I was really hoping for a good scary story, but that’s even better!
