Last week, I think I stumbled upon a treasure…
Shoebox Herb Gardens is a start up in Dunnellon, FL and if you know me, you know I’m obsessed with fresh herbs and local foods and businesses, so I knew I needed to feature her here. I’ll let her tell you about it (from her website):
The idea behind Shoebox Herb Gardens is to bring home the joy, therapeutic and health benefits of growing and cooking with fresh herbs to everyday life. Sharing a creative flare of whimsy and elegance with a variety of “Teacup Gardens” to brighten up your home or patio décor and developing small specialty herb gardens and seed baskets for people with little or no space for traditional gardens to make it simple and easy to cook with fresh herbs and enjoy your own fresh herbal teas right at home.

So, after I oogled over her pictures of her herbs and succulents, some of my favorites, some I’ve never heard of and now have to try, I started to really read and you know what? This isn’t just about business. She really loves what she’s doing and is very welcome to trading plants. She will ship trades to any place they are legal to be recieved in the United States. Soil however, can not be shipped across FL state line with plant cuttings or starters so these must be packed in damp paper towels or water beads or peat or some other non-soil medium.
There’s even a wish list on the site for things she’s most interested in trading for, as well as what she has available for trade.
At this point, the nursery isn’t open to the public, but she’s a vendor at some local events with more to come. You can check her schedule here. Like her Facebook page and get all the news as soon as it’s posted!
